  • Leenie Gilmore I have set up dual boot. Windows ME for games and any Linux for going online. This would be done on an old pc. The oldest had 128 mb ram and 433 mghz processor. wattOS is good for these old pcs.

What a nice surprise to start the week! Burning a CD as I type. Lessee if R4 can knock #! off of a few of my 'puters.

Leenie, have you tried DSL (Damn Small Linux)? I have it running on some ancient computers in my classroom (one's a 486 with 190 MB of ram and an 830 MB HD).

OK, running the i386 version of Saline OS from a USB drive (typing this from it as I write) and first impression is good. Must do a little testing on it's performance on this lappy (HP Pavilion dv6700).

One note ... I had to add "wlan0" via preferences in wicd to get the wireless network connected.

Well, Chris ... with a write-up like that I'll have to give Saline a look-see. Now, where's that spare USB drive I have sitting around?

Chris, are you using the i386 version or the amd64 version of Saline?

I used antiX for a while back when I was enamored with Openbox (v. 7.5 or thereabouts). Even used it on a few of my old computers in my classroom at school. Drifted away when later later editions had problems picking up the Broadcom wireless adapter in one of my laptops. And after I had grown tired of adding newly installed packages to the menu by hand.

oops ... that should have been fluxbox, not openbox

Hmmm .... after a few minutes of thought I can come up with only three that I usually install if not already present:

    file manager - pcmanfm
    audio player - exaile
    multimedia - vlc

and toss in lxpanel & lxterminal if LXDE is not the default.

Just added a refurbished HP Pavilion dv6000 to my stable of laptops/desktops. Intel Dual core 64 bit, 1.6 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB HD, 15" widescreen - all for $142 off an eBay auction. It's happily running wattOS rc2 at the moment. Merry Xmas to me :)

Couldn't figure out how to add my desktop screenshot to "Pictures" (maybe only Biff can do that) so I'll put it here.

note - the link has a bug I haven't sorted out just yet (first time I've tried an image hosting service - flickr in this case, know a better one?)

    Old Man Zhymm here.

    Running wattOS on:

              MSI L1350 netbook

              Dell Latitude D600

one partition (out of 4) of homebuilt desktop

Looking forward to beta testing R3

If I were organized I'd be dangerous.
