For Onboard, I think the correct designation is "@onboard".

If you have a 32-bit system, then you should be able to install Skype directly from Synaptic, which is listed in the LXDE menu under either Preferences or System. If your system is 64-bit, then it is more complicated. See http://lxlinux.com/#10 for details.

Watt has an LXDE desktop - openbox is the windows manager and probably doesn't include any panels in Watt, so a blank screen may be all there is.

I've had good luck with lxde-core installed over Mint Debian xfce - http://lxlinux.com/debian.html. The main caution is to only keep the Mint sources open for the big updates that occur about every 4 months in LMDE.

Computer alert sounds can be turned off by changing the two iNet entries in ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/desktop.conf from 1 to 0. In this address, LXDE may be replaced by the operating system name. See http://lxlinux.com .

If you can find your Xorg,0,log file, it will probably give you some information about what goes wrong. The log file showed in my failed install the following:

Unfortunately, I do not have a solution.

It is advisable to make a copy of the original before you edit, just as insurance in case you want to go back. The quickest way to do this is right click the file before any editing, and click "compress". Then you have a compresses (tarball) version and the original present. After you have finished editing the original and saved it, and have tested the edited version, and your happy with it, go back and delete the compressed version. If you are unhappy with your new version, then delete it and click the tarball and choose "extract here," and you are back to where you started.  less

The solution to getting the panel back is to put lxpanelctl restart into the terminal. How do you bring up the terminal without a panel? Use the keyboard. I always program windows (key)+t for terminal because that is in my memory bank. However, you do not need to do that because Ctrl+Esc=menu and Win+e=pcmanfm  should already be in your system.  Pcmanfm has the nice applications menu on the left side, which includes the terminal, and you should also make sure it includes shutdown for just these kinds of emergencies. Most of this information is in http://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/Tuning.html.  See, in particular, Sections 3 and 19.

Also, you can just right click an empty spot on your desktop to bring up the Openbox menu, which includes pcmanfm, terminal and any other applications (shutdown!) that you choose to put there.  It is all explained in Section 3 in the above link.  less
