Downloading as I type this and this time I started by downloading the md5 file although I thought you didn't need those on a Linux machine (I'm doing the download on a Kubuntu 10.04 LTS machine). Will let you know how this comes out.

I've already got Puppy installed on the machine and decided to dual boot instead of replacing it. The WattOS installation routine created a partition for itself (and another swap partition for some reason but that's ok) but the installation crashed. I tried a couple more times, going into the advanced partitioner to select the partition it had already created, but it still crashed.
Guess I'm stuck with Puppy. It works but isn't what I'd call "elegant". *shrug* less

Don - make sure two things are NOT selected during install. do not encrypt your directory (which is an option) and do not tell it to download and install updates during install. Both of those options have caused crashes and are discussed in the forums....biff

Unselecting that and the proprietary software checkbox got me a little further along in the process. After my first install attempt I booted into Puppy and used gparted to confirm that the WattOS installer had created a partition and, because I've often had trouble trying to use ext4 on older hardware, I set that partition to ext3 and formatted it. On my 5th attempt to install WattOS I told it to use that partition without formatting it. That time the installation ran just fine.
I was amused to find that Puppy is now listed in grub as "Unknown Linux Installation" . Don't know if it works, haven't tried it yet but it's no big deal. I already prefer WattOS to Puppy. less

I prefer to boot using the Live CD to make sure everything works ok especially to make sure my wireless will work and then choose the desktop icon to install. Are you doing a stand alone install or a dual boot?

Kevin V: Have you ever used "Bluefish" or "KompoZer"? If so which did you prefer?

Don CrowderNo, I've never used either. I've never used any sort of WYSIWYG. When I was still using Windows (prior to 2006) I liked NoteTab. Since I went full_time Linux I've mainly used Gedit. When I was still using Windows (prior to 2006) I liked NoteTab. Since I went full_time Linux I've mainly used Gedit. I downloaded WattOS to try on my Dell, Latitude C600 but can't get it to boot (stdin: error 0). I normally only try live CDs and won't install the OS if the live CD won't run, because, in my experience at least, if the live CD won't boot, neither will the installed OS.

depends on your love of code :). Kompozer is very easy to use to quickly edit for non code ninjas. Bluefish is more targets to devs and editors of code.

The only coding I've done is some very basic HTML/CSS on my website and I've always preferred to write my own code, simple as it is, instead of taking on the learning curve of a WYSISYG.

Don CrowderDoes the ISO file create an install CD or a Live/Install CD? I've burned it but haven't tried it yet.
