That slim slider and the filerequesters are pretty awkward in their right; but maybe my CD-Rs were past the use-by data: I got a lot of read errors, unattended boot was ending in a screenful of ^U or other VESA nonsense (and once a disk ejection) and K7S5As continue to resume in a locked-up state (it did go to suspend state nicely enough! Ah silence.) The cool things include some very nice green matte startup and wallpapers, and that it seems to make better use of RAM in liveCD conditions; all my old tabs loaded nicely (.configure having been copied back to ~/) and Synaptic or whatever that package grabber was worked better than ever. My SD card never shows up in the file manager app for more than a few seconds (on that LiveCD,) hey, language and video support looks improved. I'll try this ViA machine and a CD or USB media that's less transparent, and then try sorting things. apt-update and small ssd for the win.

Maybe spread this out to the 'I fought the stability of ${os_release} and the ${solution} won matrix (or add a Twitter client?)

Maybe Dave . could use a bootable USB drive with sliders for novelty…stability, a dial for the year of the lowest supported hardware, and a pair for the minimum depth and scope of polish required in applications. (A 'working clipboard' button that spoilsports…?) Maybe a nice row of DIP switches for languages permitted for apps (let's learn Portuguese!) Why ask your suppliers to replace themselves with a script when you can ask for a Wolfram Alpha query that replaces them wholesale with a cloud? (That it goes sour like sacred sites in Stephen King novels is part of the fun.)

in the topic How do I? in the forum Support
Okay, so I got R5 to run (instead of halting pretty early in init, optionally printing 'Switched to NoHz mode on CPU #0') on my touchy Inspiron 2650 with GeForce2Go 2 in it, as a VESA console, using the kernel options pci=noacpi and noisapnp. While X11 starts, it picks the noveaux_vieux driver and says Add Screen/ScreenInit failed, and ducks back out (or in the case of vesa or noveaux_vesa, refuses to take a bound kernel driver.) It looks like the nv11 isn't in the noveau notion of common nvidia hardware, which is true enough; am I missing an option parameter, or should I ask for an nv or nvda(whatever it was) X11 driver module? Also, thanks for releasing R5; I was starting to walk sideways, and MacPup would run if not hibernate on the 500MiB DDR/P4 machine, but its Firefox crashed on any larger page (e.g. Fedora forums.)

Anything crashes on Facebook without something to KO scripts; by default popunders and stuff will hit until the machine falls over or all advertisers are well-served. ScriptNo (Chromium) can sit on a number of pages with tracking 'bugs' and sit there blocking 1000 things a minute; what's the Midori option, or is it a default (as in Safari (Mac OS X ?))
