    Hi all.

I have yet to install to my netbook yet, but will do that soon, and as its new, expect no problems.

However here is my situation with a computer that I wasn goven for doing some work on a few computers for a penny pinching Co in return. LOL!

    (The really need new stuff)

The PC is an OLD Dell desktop. A Dim. 4500. Its got a 1.80 Ghz Pnetium 4, and only 1 gb of ram. And only has 32 MB of video ram.

I have had good luck with the live CD, and was really hoping to get it installed. BUT, here is the problem...

I get threw everyting, and the download from the CD is going fine. But when I get to what lookes like light at the end of the tunnel, it stops. Everything works, and Ic an click on everyting, but the indicator status bar on how far I am in a certain part of the install STOPS! It makes no sense.

Has anyone ran into the problem?

Please help. I hate to install anyting but Watt, but I am at the point that I might need to.

    Please advise.

    Rob

Those specs ought to be ample - not lightning fast, but not sluggish either.
I assume the LiveCD works OK.
First suggestion : keep it simple - no encoded /home partitions, no d/l of updates during install, etc

For earlier releases, one solution for failing installs has been :
    - open Terminal
    - at the prompt, type ubiquity
    - press enter

If that doesn't do the trick, report back in this topic. I suggest you add some more details of your hardware, any error messages and a general description of what did seem to work and what it looked like when it stopped.
Is your graphics on-board, or in an AGP slot ?

Another previously-successful approach has been to put the HDD into another PC, install wattOS, then return the HDD to its home.

    Best of luck !

Hi Teejay, thanks for the speedy reply.
Yes the ;ive CD worked find. I used it a good bit of time, no problem there.
My problem is when I go to install.
But at what seems like the last third of looks to be, it just stops. The computer does not lock up, crash or anything, it simply just stops taking the information. Everything else seems to word, the Sstart botton, and all that. I can scroll threw the images at the top of the status bar and looks at the features. But it just stops taking the information.
    I am stumped.
I have no other desk top to install it with.
I have no other problems with any other distro but this.
I suppose that I can use something else. But I kind of had my heart set on WattOS.
I thought about trying Rr and see of that would take. What are your thoughts on that?
I could do that, and wait till R6 comes out and try that.

    Thanks,

    Rob

Well, R6 is imminent, so that ought not to be a long wait.
My observation (ie w/o support data) would be that there were less install problems with R5 than with earlier releases. R4 was a nice piece of work, but what could be learned by using that ?
Sounds like the mouse works, and the screen looks OK. Correct resolution on the screen ?
You don't have an unconventional keyboard, do you ? Anything spring to mind that might be awkward to configure - graphics card, network, attached USB devices (webcam, photo frame, ...) ?
Did you try ubiquity ? One advantage of the Terminal approach is that you just might get some useful error messages.
At this stage, you're collecting relevant trouble-shooting data for someone who knows more about the install routine than I.

@Rob : I meant to comment also that I played for a while with Mint12 LXDE - good LiveCD, would not install. wattOS R5 installed instantly on the same PC. So you're not alone.
Someone noted in another wattOS forum that there are just too many h/w setups for Linux config to be guaranteed to work. You seem to have one which takes a little more patience.
So try ubiquity, and see what emerges.
And, of course, R6 might work immediately and R5 challenges will be a distant memory.
