There will be some web site maintenance very soon. There will be no loss of data, forums, accts. etc. That will all be fine, but I need to upgrade the back office code to enhance some stuff fix some bugs with links in posts, etc....

So - when you see the site is offline, its nothing more than me working...no problems, rumors, etc... :) - its all good stuff.

Additionally there are a couple of things I want to ask folks if they are interested in.

    1. Live chat - I can add that as a function within the site so we could chat live. I have IRC - but its hit or miss when people are on there, so would you like live chat in browser?

    2. Store - I am going to produce some small form factor solid state computers (no fans) to sell with wattOS. Interested in that being up here as well?

    tks....biff

I like all three ideas so far, and now have R5 on my Lenovo S10 netbook. The small form factor solid state boxes sound really interesting!

What a conincidence: The other day I was wondering if wattOS could be used as a Home Server OS in conjunction with fanless hardware. It should be based off an LTS OS though.

    @Biff

What hardware do you have in mind?

There will be some more details posted shortly as I am getting ready to reveal a really cool small form factor solid state system (SSD hard drive, no fans of any kind) and measures 6 inches by 4 inches and is 1.5 inches tall and consumes less than 12 watts typically. Really cool little box and some more announcements soon.

Biff, these guys are right down the road from me up here in northern Vermont and they do stuff like this. You might wanna take a quick look: http://www.logicsupply.com/

Actually I have wattOS running off an atom 525 motherboard purchased from logicsupply.

I don't think wattOS is made for low consumption cpu's like the atom 525 as the two fans are constantly running at 100% - really annoying. The jupiter software isn't changing the fans behaviour either.

There is room for improvements I guess...

BTW: the order from logicsupply was extremely painful: first they ship the wrong motherboard and then I had to wait several weeks for the replacement. Not good.

Good to know, ef gee, thanks for that info. And sorry you had a bad experience. I merely note also that they have had IT gigs posted online before and once you send in your resume, they have a bunch more hoops and online questionaires for you to jump through. Ditto for some other places up here, where they sometimes seem to want a PhD in CompSci with an MBA who is also a hippie. I'm sure they're out there...somewhere, but that is another topic...

Please make it possible, when log in, that after I type my email all I have to do to go to the password entry is press the "Down" key? I get tired of having to use my mouse to be able to fill the password entry.

Just wondering, when I post a comment, and get a reply, I'll get an email. Is that email hand written (and will be read if replied) or is it machine generated?

Hi all - I am in the middle of a web site upgrade - so things will be a bit strange for a day or two.

I will post a full update of new features and items shortly. things like chat and comment changes, better handling of URL's, etc. Then we can get back to the business of making wattOS better, and getting ready for the next big release :)
