Hey Pete - how much RAM? That laptop should run wattOS just fine.

Also once you get past all the code and the screen is blank, and you hit F2, do you get a command prompt (Blinking cursor?) or even if the screen is blank, when you type the command 'startx' (without the quotes) does anything happen?

Seems we've got the same problem, and my "old" laptop isn't all that old. I've tried booting from both cd and usb (md5sum is fine). The only difference between the boot options (live cd / live secure graphics (or whatever it was) and install directly is the color of the blank screen; white, black and purple in that order..

Well guys wattOS R5 will be out in the next 24 hours, so your timing is good to try out the newer version and see if your luck improves :)

I would suggest burning again, also are you installing on an internal or external CDROM? lastly, do you have an option or the ability to try USB via unetbootin?

    tks....biff

You can use Plop boot manager to boot from anywhere. If you burn it to cd it will give you option to boot from usb, even if it's not in the BIOS. It can also go on floppy. http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanagers.html
