I have had wireless issues with almost all my stand alone linux installs to laptops that have had a Broadcom wifi chip set onboard , I have found this to work,, go in and remove all the stuff with b43 in it's name and reboot, search for broadcom-wl and b43-firmware in the package manager and install those then try out the wireless again,, it has worked for me on many a Linux stand alone installs. It seems many distros are set up for dual boot and they use the wireless driver that is native to the other OS on the HDD. IE "Windblows" stuff. The broadcom-wl is a hybrid driver put out by the vendor so it works!
