Growing gaps in the panel

I have installed R4 on my EeePC and things are going swimmingly, modulo one caveat.  When the computer wakes from sleep, the icons in the system tray move further apart (see screenshot).  Those tray icons are supposed to be lined up at the bottom in the order (bottom to top) clock, network, battery, volume control.  However, with every sleep-wake cycle, they take one more step (the size of two icons) in their stately march northward.

I have absolutely no idea what would cause them to do that.  I haven't even been able to pin down whether this is a panel issue, a system tray issue, an issue with one of the applications, etc.  Has anyone else observed this phenomenon?  What other information would be helpful to figure out what is going on?  All I can tell is that the network and volume icons maintain their relative spacing, but keep moving up the screen until they cover both the window list and desktop list.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Go configure>Power Settings>General>System tray icon drop down menu>Never show icon

The battery icon is what messes it up, same thing in Lubuntu 11.10. Perhaps there is a better fix out there, but this way is the easiest if not most ideal. Or, logout and back in for a temporary fix.

Yeah, that worked. Thanks. I had narrowed it down to the power manager, but not the icon specifically. Is there any [convenient] way to determine the battery's charge without the icon displayed?

Grab "acpi" out of synaptic. Then, open your terminal and run:

    acpi

You can also check the temp

    acpi -t -f

    and a few other things.

That's been my workaround. I tried a few others out of synaptic, but nothing really worked... so the command line has been easiest.

Hi folks - I will make sure this is addressed in R5 - the next release that is right around the corner.

Question: How can I get it to reappear? I have to readjust my monitor dim interval and I have asked this icon not to show. That's where the interval setting is, AFAIK. Thanks!

Perhaps I should explain. When I go to 'add/remove panel items' and select battery indicator, it's not the same one as before. It's a little yellow one, which, when right-clicked, doesn't seem to give any options about screen timing.

I figured it out! All you have to do is run

    sudo xfce4-power-manager

Then it goes back into the tray.
